Liep Gony, Tyler Cassidy, Luke Mitchell and Nitin Garg were all young men living in Melbourne who were each killed in violent and senseless circumstances. A large quantity of media coverage followed in each case. The media focus has moved on but evidently these deaths have stuck in my mind.
Place features heavily in each of these deaths and this project aims to contemplate the relationship between place, trauma and the modern condition. In our increasing frenetic and mediated existence we dive through cyberspace but walk over the ground.
When we pass through (or look upon) these sites that have seen such trauma what do we experience? Is it just alienation and the perfect indifference of the everyday or is there room to give to landscape reveries, compassion and remembrance.
